PAY CLAS­SI­FI­CA­TION: Non-exempt

DEF­I­N­I­TION: This posi­tion per­forms all duties and func­tions per­tain­ing to air­craft res­cue and fire­fight­ing. Super­vis­es a shift of fire­fight­ers as assigned. Serves as first in com­mand of res­cue and fire­fight­ing oper­a­tions in the absence of the Assis­tant Fire Chief. Per­forms relat­ed duties as required.

EXAM­PLES OF DUTIES: Super­vis­es, directs, plans, and coor­di­nates the activ­i­ties of an assigned shift of air­port fire­fight­ers. Assists the Assis­tant Fire Chief in man­age­ment of the depart­ment. Con­ducts per­for­mance eval­u­a­tions of assigned per­son­nel. Per­forms assigned admin­is­tra­tive or tech­ni­cal duties per­tain­ing to per­son­nel train­ing. Reports need­ed repair and main­te­nance of all vehi­cles and equip­ment. Main­tains and sub­mits dai­ly activ­i­ty and inci­dent reports. Con­ducts fuel farm and fuel truck inspec­tions. Per­forms dai­ly sta­tion duties. Assists in the coor­di­na­tion and con­duct of fire and acci­dent pre­ven­tion pro­grams includ­ing train­ing of per­son­nel and ten­ants, and inspec­tion of air­port facil­i­ties. Responds to air­port emer­gency sit­u­a­tions both on-duty and off-duty as direct­ed. Assures com­pli­ance with the Air­port Emer­gency Plan and air­port safe­ty mat­ters as set forth in FAR Part 139

QUAL­I­FI­CA­TIONS: Five years expe­ri­ence as an air­port fire­fight­er. Must be cer­ti­fied as a fire­fight­er by the State of Flori­da and main­tain such cur­rent cer­ti­fi­ca­tion at all times. Employ­ee must by phys­i­cal­ly fit and be cer­ti­fied as drug free. Thor­ough knowl­edge of the prin­ci­ples, pro­ce­dures and equip­ment used in mod­ern fire­fight­ing and pre­ven­tion for Air­craft Res­cue and Fire­fight­ing. Must have the abil­i­ty to inter­face and effec­tive­ly com­mu­ni­cate with Air­port staff, ten­ants, gov­ern­men­tal enti­ties, and the gen­er­al pub­lic. Must be able to com­mu­ni­cate effec­tive­ly in both oral and writ­ten form. Must pos­sess a valid Flori­da driver’s license.

MIS­CEL­LA­NEOUS REQUIRE­MENTS: Must pass pre-employ­ment drug test­ing as well as peri­od­ic test­ing in accor­dance with air­port pol­i­cy; must pass a 10-year, fin­ger­print-based, crim­i­nal his­to­ry records check as required by the Trans­porta­tion Secu­ri­ty Administration.
